About the work

The figure in this work is suggested by a few graphite contours and changes in the weight of the paint. Sand-coloured passages meet darker areas of walnut and terracotta. Elena has left earlier positions of the arm visible beneath the final line, so the painting carries a small record of movement. Its quiet palette works especially well in natural side light.
