About the work

Milo began with the shifting shadows of a tree outside his studio. The branches became a loose framework for ochre and gold, while the background moved toward the blue of evening. Fine graphite marks hold the painting together without describing a particular tree. It rewards a little distance, when the branching lines seem to float in front of the surface.
