Iris Chen

Glass artist

“Colour changes when two transparent things meet.”

Studio practice

Iris makes studio glass in small groups rather than isolated objects. She studies how amber, olive and clear glass overlap, and how a slight irregularity can give a vessel a different weight in the hand or in the room.

At Oriel

Her gallery pieces are sculptural ensembles intended for display. She welcomes a thoughtful change of arrangement, because the spaces between the forms and the light behind them remain active parts of the work.
